The Biggest Lie New Forex Traders Believe After Watching YouTube

By AllBuyZone Quant Team | Published on Aug 03, 2026 | 22 Reads
I still remember the first trading video that made me believe Forex was easy.
The title promised something like, "Turn a small account into a full-time income." The chart looked clean, every trade seemed perfect, and the person in the video spoke with complete confidence.
By the time the video ended, I wasn't thinking about risk.
I was already calculating how much money I could make.
Looking back, that was probably my first mistake.
The problem wasn't YouTube itself. There are plenty of experienced traders who share useful knowledge online. The real problem was that I only paid attention to the exciting parts.
Nobody uploads a twenty-minute video showing themselves waiting three days for a good setup.
Nobody records the moment they decide not to trade because the risk is too high.
Most videos show the entry, the profit and the result.
They rarely show the preparation.
When I opened my first few trades, I tried to copy what I had seen.
The entry looked similar.
The chart looked similar.
But the outcome was completely different.
For weeks I kept asking myself the same question.
"Why does this work for them but not for me?"
The answer didn't come from another YouTube video.
It came from my own trading history.
I wasn't losing because I couldn't find good entries.
I was losing because I treated every trade like an opportunity to make money instead of a decision that involved risk.
If I felt confident, I increased my lot size.
If I lost, I tried to recover quickly.
If a trade moved against me, I convinced myself to hold it a little longer.
None of those decisions came from my trading strategy.
They came from emotion.
One evening I decided to stop looking for another indicator and instead reviewed every trade I had taken during the previous month.
A pattern became obvious.
Every large loss started with a small decision that didn't seem important at the time.
Using a slightly larger lot size.
Ignoring the original stop loss.
Opening another position because the first one was losing.
None of those choices looked dangerous individually.
Together, they slowly damaged the account.
That's when I realised something that no YouTube video had ever explained properly.
A good trading strategy can help you find opportunities.
Only good risk management helps you survive long enough to benefit from those opportunities.
These days my routine is very different.
Before opening a trade, I spend more time checking my risk than searching for an entry.
I want to know how much I'm risking, how much margin the trade requires and whether my account can comfortably handle another position if the market becomes volatile.
Instead of estimating those numbers in my head, I use Allbuyzone to review my position size, margin requirement, account exposure and breakeven level before placing an order.
It doesn't tell me where Gold or EUR/USD will move next.
No calculator can do that.
What it does is give me a clear picture of the risk I'm about to take.
That one habit has made a bigger difference than any indicator I've ever downloaded.
If you're new to trading, keep watching educational videos.
Keep learning.
But remember that every profitable trader you admire has one thing in common.
They don't just plan how to make money.
They plan how to protect it.
That's the lesson I wish I had learned much earlier.
Because in trading, staying in the game is often more important than trying to win every single trade.

The internet is full of strategies that promise quick results.
Very few teach you how to stay consistent when the market doesn't behave as expected.
Learning to manage risk may not be the most exciting part of trading, but it's often the reason some traders are still in the market years later while others quietly disappear after a few months.
Before you focus on your next entry, take a moment to understand your next risk.
That simple habit can change the way you trade forever.
